The Meaning of "Halcyon"
A mythical bird from Greek legend, usually identified with the kingfisher.
The legend holds that the halcyon breeds at sea in a floating nest during the winter solstice and that the sea becomes calm at this time.
The bird is therefore said to have the power to charm the winds and waves into calmness.
